Student Today Going out in Lancaster
With more than 45 pubs, a host of clubs and multiple bars crammed into one city, finding a good night out has never been easier. And with new bars opening and being refurbished every month, Lancaster students have never been so lucky in their social lives. You don't have to max your overdraft either as most places cater to a student's overdraft.
Drop into Keystones or The Friary and pick up your free yellow card, which will then give you loads of offers and discounts on most drinks. If you really want to get the most out of your money then going out during the week is your best bet as many pubs have drinks offers on for student nights. We'll let you enjoy discovering these yourselves as I'm sure you won't mind a pub crawl or two.
Lancaster is lucky enough to have two Wetherspoons pubs, The Green Ayre and Sir Richard Owen, which have low prices all day, every day, so long as you don't mind the lack of music. Try your best to get down to The Water Witch pub before it gets colder and the nights draw in.
They are an ever popular canal side pub with plenty of benches to meet and while away an evening.
If trendy cafe/wine bars are your usual haunts try Sante, Reds or The Lounge, and make sure you sample their cocktail menus while you are there.
Hustle, a relatively new bar, is like stepping onto a set on Austin Powers and the same great atmosphere. They also hold a weekly student night.
Revolution (a must for all vodka and shooter lovers) and Chicago Rock Cafe stay open till 2am and provide a good alternative if you can't be bothered paying to get in somewhere.
However if you are determined to let your hair down entrance fee clubs Liquid, Toast, Brooks or the popular Student Union's Sugar House boast larger dance floors. For something a little further afield, Lancaster University organise buses to Morecambe club The Carleton. Drop into the student union to find out when you can get your night out by the seaside. Kampus, one of Lancaster's gay bars, is always a great atmosphere.
Rock fans should head to The Dark Place club at Hornsea Pottery or visit the city centre pubs, The Bobbin or the Yorkshire House where bands regularly play live gigs in the evenings.
If you fancy something different check out The Merchants, a pub made out of three tunnels that used to house cask ale in past years. Now it's an original venue with reasonably priced drinks and food and friendly bar staff.
Cross over the road and you'll find The Crypt where alternative music is played.
The John O'Gaunt pub offers a original atmosphere with cask ales, good food and a quiet intimate atmosphere. Many nights the pub springs into action with unrivalled jazz performances.
If a quiet pint and a game of pool appeals more to you there is an abundance of traditional ale houses throughout Lancaster, so just take your pick.
